Senior Guys: Photo Tips Without the Awkward

I get it, most senior guys don’t spend their free time practicing in front of a mirror. The idea of “posing” can feel awkward, but that’s exactly why I take a laid-back approach. My goal is to make sure your photos look natural, relaxed, and like you.

Over the years, I’ve figured out a few easy ways to get natural senior portraits without the stiff, fake-smile vibes. Here’s how I make it happen.

1. Keep It Moving

Movement makes a huge difference. I’ll have you walk, lean, adjust your jacket, or look off into the distance. Small actions take the pressure off “standing still” and help you relax into the moment.

2. Use What Feels Comfortable

If shoving your hands in your pockets feels normal do it. If crossing your arms feels more natural go for it. We’ll use poses that work with your personality so you look confident without trying too hard.

3. No Fake Smiles

Forget the “say cheese” face. I’d rather get a real laugh out of you or capture a more serious expression if that’s your style. Either way, we’re aiming for authentic, not forced.

4. Props + Personal Touches

Sports gear, your truck, a guitar whatever tells your story, we can incorporate it. These little details not only make your session personal, they also give you something to do with your hands so you’re not overthinking your pose.

5. The Candid Moments

Some of the best shots happen between poses. I’ll keep the camera ready for those moments when you’re adjusting your hat, talking, or just being yourself. Those shots? They’re often the favorites.

Bottom line: You don’t have to be a model to get great senior photos. With the right guidance (and zero pressure), we’ll create images that feel natural and actually look like you.
